If you need a Free Motion Sewing Machine Foot, then this is where you will find our full range. These sewing machine feet are also affectionately known as Darning Feet as that used to be the main use for this style of sewing – until more fun sewing projects took off!
These little sewing machine accessories have a whole host of uses. They are one of the best tools to have on standby if you want to turn your sewing projects into works of art.
We have free-motion feet here that are designed to fit a variety of sewing machines, including favourites like Brother, Janome, Pfaff, Husqvarna Viking, Uten, Babylock, Singer, Elna, Juki, or Kenmore and more.
What makes these feet so magical? They allow you to move the fabric freely in any direction, making them ideal for quilting, embroidery, and darning and sewing in spots where traditionally shaped sewing machine feet may struggle to get into.
Most of these free-motion sewing machine feet have screw-on fixtures, although some sewing machines have a snap-on option.
To use these feet, begin by lowering or covering your feed dogs. This allows your fabric to glide freely under the needle. As you start stitching, remember to hold your fabric with a gentle touch, guiding it softly. Don’t be tempted to pull at the fabric or you may break your thread or needle.
This foot can take a little bit of getting used to as it is so different from using a traditional foot that helps to guide your fabric for you, so we would really recommend having a practice on some scraps. Depending on what you are trying to sew, you may find it is easier and looks better if you use some stabiliser or hoop your fabric first.
