Thick Fabric Sewing Machine Feet & Tools

Any sewing machine can sew with thick fabrics. It’s only a problem when you don’t know how to do it.

Thick fabrics like upholstery fabrics, denim, leather, vinyl and canvas can cause problems by creating uneven surfaces, especially when you want to sew near to the edge of the fabric or to make it up and over a seam or hem. This tends to tip the presser foot which causes stress on the needle leading to needle breakages and thread messes.

With the correct sewing machine foot, you’ll find that you can keep your presser foot flatter than a pancake, and the rest is easy!

Here is where you’ll find self-levelling feet for jumping up and down seams at the push of a button, compensating feet for topstitching along the edge of chunky hems, hump jumping tools for a quick seam jump or for sewing on buttons for thick fabrics. You’ll also find the all direction super sprung thick fabric foot that can jump up and down seams like they aren’t even there.

If you want to see some of these in action, then you might want to pop on over to our Sewing With Thick Fabric Guide.
