What Is Jersey Fabric?

Jersey fabric is a soft material with some stretch. It is typically made from cotton, polyester, or a blend of these fibres, but can also be made with other fibres like bamboo or wool. The fabric is characterised by the tight knit that it is made with, as opposed to a weave in non-stretch cotton fabric.

Jersey fabric is both absorbent and breathable, which when combined with the ability to move and drape as well as the softness of the fabric, makes it a perfect fabric for comfortable clothing or active wear such as t-shirts, underwear, shorts, skirts and dresses. It is also commonly used for bedding.

In some jersey fabrics, the stretch can be enhanced by the addition of spandex or similar mixed into the fibres.
