Hedgehog Hollow is a fabric collection that features a hedgerow full of furry and feathered friends. This delightful cotton has a very British wildlife feel to it in a beautiful watercolour style. It has been brought to life by Jason Yenter, who is one of the founders and talented artists of In The Beginning Fabrics.
With a crisp white background, these woodland animals stand in sophisticated contrast. Hedgehogs meander across the fabric with gentle grace. Meanwhile, a squirrel pauses with an acorn at its feet. Its eyes gleam with a spark of life that only a true nature lover could capture. Nearby, a duo of small brown and white birds seem to be deep in conversation, adding a touch of dynamic realism to the scene.
In a quiet spot, a wild rabbit, in gentle grey and earthy brown tones, sits with ears perked. Maybe listening to the twittering of the nearby birds. Nearby a fox enjoys a peaceful slumber, its thick tail curled around itself into a cozy ring of warmth.
The fabric is dotted with the vibrant red and green of wild strawberry plants. Between the fruits and the acorns it gives a feeling of late summer where food is plentiful and the animals are warm, well fed and contented. Between the strawberries and animals are other delicate forms of common hedgerow plants, making you feel like you’ve just stumbled into an opening of a hedge to find a glimpse of wildlife on the other side.
And as if that wasn’t enough, adding a flutter of elegance, are butterflies—both in a serene pale blue, and the other drawn as a classic cabbage white, with creamy wings fluttering barely off the white background.
At approximately 110cm (43 inches) wide, Hedgehog Hollow is available by the metre (39 ⅓ inches) or half a metre (19 ½ inches). For smaller sewing projects, it’s also available as a fat quarter, measuring approximately 55cm x 50cm (21 ½ x 19 ½ inches).
This fabric is a dream for crafting. With the white background, whatever you choose to pair it with, these animals will stand out. Perfect for fussy cutting or for use as a larger gentle spread, this cotton is perfect for a wide range of sewing projects. But we think it would be particularly fun to make a fit-and-flare fox dress, or a hedgehog hot pad, or you could even quilt some woodland wall art.
So, if your next sewing project would look better with a little hedgehog snuffle or a snoozing fox, then we hope that this woodland animal cotton fabric will help you make the kind of creation you want to “squirrel” away and keep for yourself!
