Hyacinthus (August 2023 Collection)

Description

This big, bold and beautiful hyacinth cotton fabric has been designed by Philip Jacobs who is part of the Kaffe Fassett Collective, as part of the August 2023 Collection for Free Spirit Fabrics. This floral cotton features bursts of firey red, pink and purple hyacinths in all their glorious colours. Known for their rich fragrance and dense flower clusters, these hyacinths are striking against their deep burgundy-red background.  Shadows and highlights are used to create depth, making the petals appear as if they are curling outward towards the light. Hyacinths are sometimes used to symbolise playfulness, as well as peace and commitment, which could add a layer of meaning to any projects that you might like to create with this fabric. Leaves cut through between the flowers with their long straight edges and bright green colours in a delightful contrast to the softness of the petals. The shading in the veins of the leaves helps to add more depth and feeling of movement to this botanical scene. The leaves and spacing between the flowers make the pattern feel like more of a bright summer garden rather than a bouquet. At a width of approximately 110cm (43 inches), this large print is perfectly suited to a wide range of sewing projects. We think it would be especially fun to use such a bold cotton for making bold hyacinth hexagons for quilts or even quilted bags. Or wouldn’t it be fabulous for conservatory cushions or summery shopping bags? Hyacinthus is available by the metre (39 ⅓ inches) or half a metre (19 ½ inches). Multiple quantities will be sent as a continuous length. Fat quarter sizes are also available, measuring about 55cm x 50cm (21 ½ x 19 ½ inches).
