Banana Leaves (Food Safe)
£4.59 – £13.75
If you like your flowers and foliage to have more of a tropical paradise feel to them, then we hope that you’ll love this Banana Leaf patterned Polyurethane Laminate Fabric.
This pattern is a reminder of a peaceful oasis, where time seems to slow down and the worries of the world can fade away. It features lush light green banana leaves against a deep navy blue. This colour contrast makes the leaves beautifully eye-catching as they stand out boldly from their dark backdrop. Scattered around the leaves are pretty delicate pink and white flowers which feel like they add a touch of elegance and tranquility. The soft pastel pink hues add little pops of colour to the design as they lend their own natural beauty to the pattern.
Not only is this fabric pretty, but PUL fabric is also perfectly practical and great to use for a wide range of sewing projects that need a waterproof finish. The softness and lightweight nature of the fabric, along with the slight stretch and draping allows for ease of movement. Its breathability adds comfort making it a versatile choice for a wide range of uses including personal items like reusable nappies, washable sanitary products, incontinence covers and pads. It is also a fantastic choice for raincoats and bag linings or baby changing mats and much more.
When we say that the “Banana Leaf” patterned polyurethane laminate (PUL) fabric is certified as food safe, it means that it has undergone rigorous testing and meets specific safety standards for contact with food. This certification ensures that the fabric is suitable for use in applications where it may come into direct or indirect contact with food items.
By using a fabric that is certified as food-safe, you can have peace of mind knowing that it is a safe and suitable choice for projects like food storage bags, lunch bags, and reusable food wraps. We do not recommend that this fabric be used directly with hot items, with the oven or the microwave or at similar high temperatures where the polyurethane laminate fabric may become damaged.
At approximately 150cm (59 inches) width, you can choose to purchase by the meter (39 ⅓ inches), half a meter (19 ½ inches), or a smaller fat quarter size, which is approximately 50cm x 50cm (19 ½ x 19 ½ inches). Should you choose to order multiple quantities of half metres or meters, we will send this out as a continuous piece.
To keep your fabric looking vibrant and long-lasting, we recommend washing at 30°C or below.
PUL fabric is made from a polyester fabric with a waterproof polyurethane layer bonded to its back, resembling cling film. While some of our PUL fabrics may have a wide selvedge, it’s important to note that the lamination may not cover the entire selvedge edge, or the waterproof layer might overlap it. This does not impact the usable width of the fabric.
If you want more information on sewing with PUL fabrics, then we have a PUL fabric guide full of extra tips and inspiration.
