This screw-on foot has a raised edge around the base circle. Like the darning (aka free motion) sewing machine foot, it allows you to stitch in any direction (you may need to lower or cover your feed dogs for this to work properly). However, unlike the free motion foot, the high sides allow you to follow any raised edge such as a ruler or template. This makes it easier to quickly follow complex quilting patterns or similar without needing to mark the fabric. The width of the base is 1/4 inch (approx 0.6cm) so all stitching will be this distance away from your template.
High shank sewing machines are generally industrial style sewing machines. If you aren’t sure if this will fit your machine, check out our sewing machine feet guide.
