It might sound a bit daunting, but the Invisible Zipper Foot helps make the process so much easier that you’ll wonder why you left it so long to try it. This little sewing machine foot helps you to create that seamless, professional look you’ve admired in high-end fashion, right from the comfort of your sewing room.

Invisible zippers blend in so well with the fabric that when they are inserted correctly you can’t even see them. Think about those gorgeous dresses or stylish cushions that look as if there’s no zipper at all. That’s the charm of an invisible zipper! And this is where this invisible zipper presser foot comes into play. Please note that if you want to sew a regular zipper then you’ll want a regular zipper foot to do it. This little foot is just for invisible ones.

Fitting this foot to your Group 1-7 Husqvarna Viking sewing machine is as simple as changing a lightbulb. You just unclip your standard foot, align the Invisible Zipper Foot with your machine’s shank, and snap it into place. This metal foot is built for durability to help you fit concealed zipper after zipper after zipper!

Now, you might be wondering how to use this foot. The first thing to know is that you should always insert an invisible zipper before stitching the garment’s seam. Make sure to get a zipper that’s a little longer than needed, say about 1 1/4″ (3cm) longer than the opening. The extra length gives you room to manoeuvre.

It’s much easier to get an accurate placement of your invisible zipper if you mark the length of the zipper opening on your fabric and the zipper. That’s your guide for sewing it in. Oh, and unzip the zipper first – it’s much easier to handle that way.

Now, this foot has two handy grooves underneath that hold the zipper coils just where you need them. Double-check that your zipper has standard-sized teeth and that they glide through the grooves easily.

Place the right part of the zipper on the fabric’s right sides together. Aim for the coil to be on the seamline and the top stop of the zipper 3/4″ (2 cm) below the cut edge of the fabric. Fingerpress up the zipper coils and lower the presser foot with the zipper coils in the right opening under the foot.

Select your straight stitch. The front of the foot has a needle guide to help you align everything perfectly. Backstitch to start and finish, and sew down to your marked spot.

Repeat for the other side, using the left opening of the foot, then pull up the zipper pull to do up your zipper. The next step is to close the seam below the zipper. This is easier if you use a regular Zipper Foot, starting right where your backstitching ended.

If your zipper turns out to be too long, no problem! Just whipstitch across the zipper teeth below the inserted length and trim away the excess. Neat, tidy and magically hidden!
