Description

The Q Sensor foot has been designed to be used with Husqvarna Viking Sewing Machines only in category 7, excluding the Designer Epic model.

Unlike other presser feet, the name of this sewing machine foot isn’t giving anything away, so you might ask – What Is A Q Sensor Foot?  It’s a free-motion sewing machine foot (often also called a darning foot), that is designed to work with thick squishy fabrics like fleece, towelling or wadding. It can also easily move around textured surfaces like couched stitches where threads and cords have been stitched on the fabric top. Because it is a free-motion foot, it can sew in any direction, making it perfect for sewing projects like quilting or decorative sewing.

How Do You Install The Q Sensor Foot? Unlike snap-on feet, this foot needs screwing onto the bar that your snap-on adapter is usually attached to. So take a screwdriver and gently unscrew the ankle (the part that your snap-on feet clip onto). Lower your needle a little so that you can slide the arm of the foot (the long white part that sticks up) to hook over the top of the needle screw. Then line up the main body of the Q sensor foot around the presser foot bar so that it wraps around it. Screw it in place through the hole on the opposite side to your needle screw. Then select the Q Sensor setting in the machine menu. For best results it is recommended to use a single hole needle plate.

Once the foot is attached and the Q sensor setting has been selected, this foot is really easy to use. I highly recommend bringing your bobbin thread up through the fabric before you start to sew. You can do this by manually lowering and then raising your needle to make 1 stitch. Hold the thread in the needle still, as you gently pull on the tail of your thread until the loop of bobbin thread starts pulling upwards. You can then just ease it out and hold both thread tails to the back before lowering your foot and starting to sew. This way, you can’t accidentally catch the thread tail underneath and end up with a surprise bird-nest-style thread mess under your fabric.

Carefully guide your fabric as you sew trying to keep a relaxed and smooth motion. Remember that the more relaxed your shoulders and arms are, not only can you sew for longer and more comfortably, but also you’ll find that your movements become more fluid, so your stitches will look more consistent too. You might want to practice on some scraps first to build up your confidence before working on that puff quilt that’s taken you hours to make already!
