Pfaff – Pintuck Foot With Decorative Stitch Guide
Pintucks are small, narrow folds of fabric that are stitched in place to create a raised or textured effect. They are perfect for adding a decorative touch and a bit of extra visual interest, especially on clothing, cushions, purses and other accessories.
You can use this sewing machine foot to create pintucks with a spacing of 5 or 11 mm apart. You will need a twin needle to sew pintucks, as the pintuck is held by pinching up a small amount of fabric and securing in place with the needles stitching either side of it.
To use the pintuck foot, first, unclip your current snap-on foot and clip this presser foot in its place. You can line the guide on this foot to point either left or right. With your twin needle threaded, set your machine to sew a straight stitch. A shorter stitch length is often used to create closely spaced folds.
We recommend practising on some scrap fabric of a similar type first to make sure you are used to using the foot and are happy with your pintuck formations before moving on to your main project. It can be helpful to use a temporary fabric marker to draw a line to follow where you want your initial pintuck line to be sewn. Lines after this can use the previous line as a guide.
Pintuck feet have special groves underneath them that determine how much the fabric is puckered into a pintuck. These grooves also serve as guides for helping you get perfectly spaced parallel rows. To begin, place your fabric under the Pintuck Foot, lining up the first marked line for your pintuck with the groove in the extended guide on the foot. Lower the presser foot and begin sewing slowly. When you are ready to move to the next row of pintucks, use the guide on the foot to help you sew parallel to your previous pintuck. This will automatically space out the second pintuck, helping you keep a perfectly even gap between each line until you’ve completed all of your rows.
This pintuck foot is a little bit extra special in that it also has a decorative stitch guide which helps you to sew decorative stitches up to 6mm or 9mm wide between the pintucks. This can take your pintuck game to a whole new level of pretty!!! Again, practice on some scraps first to check the stitch you want will work well. To use the pintuck foot this way, we recommend sewing your pintucks first, line your pintucks up with the guide, then have fun stitching down the centre. You could keep the same thread that you used for the pintucks for a more gentle textured look or make it a bolt statement with some contrasting thread colours.
Once you’ve finished sewing, you can make your pintucks look more crisp by using a pressing cloth or ironing the wrong side of the fabric.
