Singer Slant Shank Screw On – Edge Joining/Stitch In The Ditch Foot

This foot will fit old-style Singer sewing machines with a slanted bar to which the snap-on adaptor or screw-on feet attach. This sewing machine foot has a screw-on fitting. It has a central guide bar which is often used in 2 different ways:

• Edge Joining – To use this sewing machine foot as an edge joining foot, simply place the 2 fabrics that you wish to join together, on either side of the guide bar. By stitching with a wide stitch such as a zigzag stitch, you can join the fabric edges with a flat join as you feed the fabrics towards the central guide. This is especially useful for fabrics which don’t fray easily in situations where you don’t wish to have a bump over the seam such as sports leggings or for thicker fabrics such as when sewing scuba or neoprene.

• Stitch In The Ditch – This is a technique often used by quilters to sew directly over the top of a previously stitched line, such as when quilting another layer over the top of a seam on the top layer. To use this sewing machine foot in this way, simply keep the central guide lined up with the line of stitching you wish to follow as you sew a straight stitch.
